WHAT IS Pilates?

A strength building system of precision and control.

Pilates is an exercise system which balances muscle groups and strengthens stabilising muscles to improve biomechanics and postural alignment. It works muscles through full range of motion which is why it is often associated as a stretch method as well. It was originally named Contrology by Joseph Pilates and the contemporary version I teach puts emphasis on the stability of the shoulder girdle as well as the pelvis and lumbar spine. I use both small equipment on the mat and BASI Systems equipment to offer the best possible movement considerations for the client.

Hi I'm Georgia, I live on Dartmoor and when not running around after my two girls I enjoy riding bikes, running, swimming and generally being outdoors. I discovered Pilates through endurance sports when I needed to improve my core stability. I became so interested in it that I chose to train as a teacher and after a few years of teaching 

Hi I'm Georgia, I live on Dartmoor and when not running around after my two girls I enjoy riding bikes, running, swimming and generally being outdoors. I discovered Pilates through endurance sports when I needed to improve my core stability. I became so interested in it that I chose to train as a teacher and after a few years of teaching the mat and from home, eventually opened my small studio in Southernhay, Exeter so that I could share that passion with people. I believe it is a highly effective and adaptable method that can be tailored to suit everybody. My regular self practice and interest for exploring movement is what enables me to be unique and creative with my classes and cue movements well to others so that they really feel the benefits of the session. I teach 1:1 in my studio and online. Classes are completely tailored to your needs, with individual considerations and detailed corrections so that you experience a method with results.


I trained in London with BASI® 

(Body Arts Science International). BASI® is a highly reputable Pilates school true to Joseph Pilates original principles but with a contemporary influence that brings it up to date with modern science. After my Mat qualification I completed my 500 + hours of Comprehensive training and exams. I am trained to teach on all of the Pilates equipment: Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Step Barrel, Ladder barrel, F2 Chair including the well known Reformer.

I have physio guided training in safe movement for disc disease, post-surgical conditions, rotator cuff syndrome, tendinopathies, and osteoarthritis.

Pilates for sports performance is something I'm very interested in as a Cyclist and a Runner and I have used Pilates myself in training for several endurance events, XC cycling races, Triathlon and stage racing. I highly recommend it for preventing injury and improving 'mind-body' connection.

Pilates for sports performance is something I'm very interested in as a Cyclist and a Runner and I have used Pilates myself in training for several endurance events, XC cycling races, Triathlon and stage racing. I highly recommend it for preventing injury and improving 'mind-body' connection. 


There is endless possibility to tailor Pilates for a particular sport. It can rebalance muscle groups where necessary to prevent injury and therefore give an athlete more longevity in their sport. It is a brilliant compliment to other forms of strength training and will improve not only your stability but your postural awareness, range of motion, balance and proprioception.


I specialise in Shoulder stability and injury prevention for the Cyclist but Pilates can be applied to many other sports.

Directions to my Exeter Studio: The entrance on the side of the Southernhay West Block next to Stephen Scown Solicitors. Parking is available on the road for an hour and there are several car parks, the closest is the Southgate Hotel.
